This British beast of a car is iconic on many levels. This car was built to tear up the countryside, forests, and sand dunes. With a low limiter threshold, the Land Rover Defender redlines and pops at almost every opportunity, giving a brutal edge to its sonic personality.
This library includes separate onboard engine recordings capturing aspects of the engine belt noise, rotation and timing sounds, exhaust recordings capturing the spitting and rasping and, finally the interior cabin perspective recordings in surround for internal audio of the car and any additional sounds to be heard.
The car is a Land Rover Defender TD5 2.5L with a VVT Turbo fitted with an OFG Custom Straight through exhaust pipe system custom made by Land Rover specialists. This machine is a big fish in the British Rally Raid racing scene.
Recording this car, we aimed to capture all the sonic character this car has to offer as we recorded a series of manoeuvres from slow to fast driving while switching gears, and especially the exterior perspective recordings of drive ins and drive offs, passbys and door shuts.
With a fully rigged setup producing isolated onboard recordings of engine, exhaust, interior and two static external trackside perspectives, all timecode jam synced for DAW session reconstruction we have taken all aspects from pre to post production into consideration.
